Sauer Compressors is a global leader in compressor manufacturing with approximately 1,000 employees worldwide. Founded in 1884 in Kiel, the company's products serve industries including shipping, manufacturing, offshore operations and naval defence. Their portfolio spans from high-pressure compressors for industrial applications to specialised compressors for submarines.

Many of these products boast exceptionally long service lives, with Sauer Compressors frequently providing maintenance contracts spanning several decades. In some cases, spare parts availability is guaranteed for over 35 years. Such commitments demand seamless internal processes. However, the company's email communication system began showing its limitations several years ago.

Email files had grown increasingly large, significantly slowing down their on-premise mail server. Finding older emails became progressively challenging and time-consuming, compounded by inadequate search functionality. Staff often couldn't determine whether emails had been deleted or were simply impossible to locate.

Our staff have really embraced the search function. When they need to find an email, they actually prefer using EMA over the mail client itself because the search experience is so much better and faster. From an IT perspective, the major benefit is that EMA runs incredibly reliably in the background without creating any administrative overhead. The archive scales effortlessly too. EMA has grown seamlessly alongside our business over the years without any issues.

EMA Delivers Legally Compliant and Audit-Proof Archiving

Facing these operational challenges, the compressor specialist chose to implement the EMA archive system from ARTEC IT Solutions, following a recommendation from their external IT service provider. Initially deployed as an on-premise solution, EMA runs continuously in the background, automatically handling legally compliant and audit-proof archiving of all incoming and outgoing emails. A powerful full-text search enables efficient archive research. Staff access their EMA archive through a desktop link.

Future-Ready for Cloud Transition

Sauer Compressors is currently preparing to migrate various systems to the cloud, including a transition to Microsoft Exchange Online for their mail server. EMA forms part of this migration strategy, which will make archive access even more convenient for users. The EMA Outlook Add-In will integrate directly with Outlook, eliminating the need to access the archive via desktop. This creates a more intuitive experience, with the EMA full-text search making all archived emails available directly within the familiar Outlook environment.

Thanks to EMA's flexibility, our move to the cloud didn't require us to even consider changing systems. EMA perfectly meets our requirements in this new cloud environment as well.
